A photo-etched set of parts for the Douglas A-1J Skyraider model in 1:48. Thin metal gives the parts a delicacy that cannot be reached in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider is an American single-seat piston attack aircraft that came about at the close of the Second World War and in the age of jets still showed no sign of leaving. It could do something fast machines could not: it lifted a large load of armament under the wing and could circle over a battlefield with it for hours. That is exactly why it became a valued companion of ground troops and an escort for rescue helicopters. The A-1J version is one of the late production machines of this family.
These are photo-etched parts, that is elements cut out of thin metal sheet by chemical means. Metal allows what plastic cannot: a part a few tenths of a millimeter thick with a crisp outline and with a fine texture pressed into the surface. The set is intended for the A-1J model in 1:48. The scope of the set, the placement of the individual parts and any changes to the plastic parts are described in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are held on the sheet by thin tabs. Cut them off with a sharp blade on a hard surface and do not break them out, because they will bend. Make the bends along the marked grooves, best in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat pliers. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, and really in a small amount. Before painting, wash the metal surface, degrease it and go over it with a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth sheet. Carry small parts with tweezers over a surface from which nothing can roll away.
This is a supplementary set for a model, not a kit. Paints, glue, tools and the kit itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
