A masking set for the landing gear bays of the Lightning fighter in the F.1, F.2 and F.6 versions, 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The English Electric Lightning was a British supersonic interceptor that entered service with the Royal Air Force in the early 1960s. The arrangement of its powerplant was unusual: the two engines were stacked one above the other in the fuselage, which gave the machine a narrow fuselage and its legendary rate of climb. The main armament consisted of guided missiles on the sides of the forward fuselage. The designations F.1, F.2 and F.6 belong to successive production versions, which differed in equipment and range.
The mask closes off the landing gear bays, so they stay clean while the outer coat is sprayed and the boundary between the color of the bay and the surrounding surface is crisp. The pieces are cut to the shape of the parts of a particular kit, so compare the brand and the release of your kit with the manufacturer's data before you buy.
Wash and degrease the surface first and only then stick the mask down, and do so before spraying. Press the edges down with a toothpick or a blunt wooden stick so that paint cannot flow under them. Spray in thin coats and take the mask off as soon as the paint has set; once it has fully hardened it tears away less easily and may pull the edge of the coat with it. Pull it back over itself at an angle, not straight up.
For modelers of British Cold War jet fighters who dislike laborious masking by hand and want the bays bounded precisely. It is an accessory to a kit. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
