1:48 Douglas A-26B-15 Invader BASIC kabuki masks is a masking set in pre-cut kabuki paper for the model of the A-26B Invader attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory for painting.

The set holds pre-cut masks in kabuki paper, a thin Japanese masking material of medium tack. The material is pliable, follows convex glazing well and leaves no adhesive residue on the surface when lifted. The BASIC designation corresponds to the basic level of the set, which the manufacturer offers alongside a more extensive EXPERT version. The exact list of the individual masks is given by the illustration on the packaging of the set.
The glazed cockpit of the Invader has a great many small frames and several split parts. Hand painting with a brush leaves an uneven, frayed edge behind on them and the paint piles up at the border. Spraying under an accurately cut mask, by contrast, gives a sharp edge of the right thickness for the scale. Against a decal, which would only imitate a frame, a mask has the merit that the frame is genuinely painted, so no glossy step and no distinct edge of a carrier film appears anywhere.
First degrease the glazing and let it dry completely. Lift the mask off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, seat it and press it down around the whole perimeter with a wooden stick or the blunt tip of a toothpick. It is precisely the pressure on the edge that decides whether the paint runs underneath. Spray in thin coats and preferably in two passes. The proven order is the shade of the cockpit interior first and only then, once it is dry, the exterior color of the airframe. Lift the masks as soon as the paint has set and holds together, not after a long cure, when the film readily tears along the edge.
The set is an accessory for painting a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
