A photo-etched set from the Czech maker Eduard which, unlike the cockpit sets, aims outward on the model: at the exterior surfaces of the airframe and at the landing gear section. These are the places a plastic kit handles worst - thin covers, grilles, hinges, struts and stiffeners in the bays cannot be made at a realistic thickness by injection molding. Metal sheet removes that disadvantage. It is not an aircraft kit; the plastic model has to be obtained separately.
The Douglas B-26K Invader is a rebuilt late form of the twin-engine A-26 aircraft of the end of the Second World War, reworked in the 1960s for counter-insurgency duties. The rebuild took in strengthening of the structure, new engines and propellers, heavier armament and wingtip tanks. The machine thus got a second life two decades after it first appeared, and in model form it differs distinctly from the original A-26.
Lay out the work according to when you can reach each place on the model. The landing gear bays belong at the start of the build, before the nacelles and the fuselage are closed up. The external photo-etched items, by contrast, come only after the seams are sanded and the base coat sprayed, or you will tear them off while preparing the surface. Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface, bend them in a bending tool or over a metal ruler and glue with cyanoacrylate in a small amount. Degrease and prime the metal before painting. A twin-engine model has its mass well forward, so keep checking that it stands on its nose wheel.
The set is an accessory to a model, not an aircraft kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
