A resin replacement propeller for the E-2 Hawkeye carrier-based early warning aircraft in 1:48 scale from Quickboost. It is not an aircraft model and not a kit - it is a replacement part for a plastic kit you already own. On turboprop aircraft the propeller is one of the parts where injection-molded plastic reaches the limits of what it can do, which is why it is replaced most often.
Propeller blades have a complex shape in reality: the chord, the profile and the setting angle all change along their length. Such a shape can only be released from a mold with compromises, so plastic blades tend to be thicker, flatter and with less pronounced twist than a real propeller has. A resin casting does not carry these compromises - the blade is thinner, has a more faithful profile and keeps its twist along its whole length. On the E-2 Hawkeye the propellers are moreover large and dominate the whole model when seen from the front, so this is a replacement with an immediately visible effect.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a fine disc - the blades are thin and break when bent. Sand wet and while protecting your airways. Before gluing, try the assembly dry and check that all the blades sit at the same angle; the easiest way is to let the propeller dry standing upright on a flat surface. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Do the painting separately from the fuselage: a primer, then flat black blades with colored tips, and finally suggest fine wear on the leading edges with a dry brush and a metallic color. Fit the propeller right at the end, after the varnish and the decals.
This is an accessory for a model, not a stand-alone kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, please check that the set matches your kit and the propeller version.
