A double-sided set of stencils for the framing of the cockpit of the single-seat Thunderchief in 1:48 scale. It covers the glass from both sides, so the inner side of the frame gets the shade of the cockpit and the outer the top camouflage, without your having to outline anything by hand. It pays off above all when you leave the canopy hinged open on a finished model.
The machine was powered by a single jet engine with an afterburner, with which the aircraft broke the speed of sound at ground level and exceeded twice that at altitude. The design came about as a carrier for a nuclear weapon stowed in a fuselage bomb bay, but it became famous for conventional bombing from low levels. Losses over North Vietnam were high and the machines took off for these tasks from the Thai bases of Takhli and Korat. The aircraft was exceptionally heavy for its day and a takeoff run with a full load swallowed a great stretch of runway, but close to the ground it flew steadily and very fast.
