A detail set in resin intended for a faithful rendering of the landing gear bays (the wheel bays) of a model of the American Republic F-105D Thunderchief fighter-bomber in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane kit but an accessory that replaces the shallow or simplified bays from a plastic kit with sharply cast parts with a worked structure of ribs, piping and walls. Once they are built in, the underside of the model and the open bays gain a realistic depth that stands out above all on a model with the landing gear down.
The Republic F-105 Thunderchief, nicknamed the Thud, was a massive single-engine fighter-bomber and at the same time the largest single-seat single-engine combat aircraft of its day. It was designed for a fast strike at low altitude and became the main striking force of the US Air Force over North Vietnam, where it bore the brunt of the raids as well as considerable losses.
First wash the parts free of mold release residue and only then glue and paint them. Cut the casting blocks off carefully with a saw and sand the cut surfaces. Bond resin with super glue (cyanoacrylate): ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin. Before gluing them in, the openings in the kit usually have to be modified slightly, so the set is for the more experienced. Sand wet and protect your airways.
