Painting stencils cut to the shape of the clear parts of the F-106A. The set is intended for the Revell kit. A form for the Trumpeter kit, whose glazing has a different division, exists alongside it, so check which box you are building.

The last purely interceptor machine

The F-106A grew out of the Delta Dagger as a far more capable machine and became the backbone of the defense of North American airspace. A powerful engine and deeply set air intakes behind the cockpit made it a fast fighter that did not have to be guided by the pilot alone: the electronics worked with the ground control network and could lead an attack almost without the crew intervening. It carried its weapons inside the fuselage, including an unguided rocket with a warhead intended against bomber formations.

Where masking gives trouble

• The windscreen runs into the hinged section at a sharp break and the edge has to sit exactly.
• The frames are fairly wide on this type and an uneven color catches the eye at once.
• Behind the cockpit the glazing joins the spine, where the seam often needs filling.
• The clear part is large, so every trace of glue left behind is visible later.

Who it suits

For modelers who want the painting of the glazing finished quickly and accurately. The stencil is cut to a particular shape, so trying and recutting strips falls away. It is also of interest to collectors of Cold War equipment who build a row of air defense machines side by side and need the same level of finish on them.
