A resin set of wheels from DEF Model in 1:48 scale for the American F-14A/B Tomcat carrier-based fighter. These are wheels with the load indicated, that is with a realistically flattened contact face and a slightly bulged sidewall, as though the tire were carrying the weight of the aircraft. The form matches the mid production. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for the landing gear.
The F-14 Tomcat was an American two-seat carrier-based fighter with a variable-geometry wing, operated from aircraft carriers. The A and B versions differed above all in their powerplants. The sturdy nose and main landing gear had to take catapult launches and arrested landings on deck, so the tires carried a considerable load and were visibly pressed down at rest.
Wash the wheels to remove any release agent, cut off the casting blocks and clean up the faces. Bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Weighted wheels have one side flattened, so turn that flattened side perpendicular to the ground when gluing, in order for the model to stand realistically. Apply a base coat before painting; knock the tires back with a matte paint and pick the hubs out differently, and a patina will bring out the structure of the tread. The set is intended for the Tamiya and Hasegawa kits.
The accessory does not hold the model itself, glue or paints. It is intended for completing a kit you already have.
