A set of pre-cut masking pieces in kabuki paper for models of F-15 aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a part of a model. The EXPERT designation is the highest level in the manufacturer's range, so the set has the widest extent of the whole series; check the exact list of pieces against the illustration with the product. Kabuki paper is thin and slightly stretchy, holds just firmly enough not to pull paint away when removed, and therefore creates a sharp edge even on curved surfaces. The name of the set gives the two-seat versions and the Japanese variant; because the glazing of the individual versions and kits differs, we recommend checking the match with your own model.
The F-15 is a twin-engine fighter with a high-mounted wing of large area and a pair of vertical tails. The two-seat B and D versions were created as trainer and conversion variants of the single-seat machines; they have a lengthened cockpit with two seats under a shared canopy and keep the combat capabilities of the basic version. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) operates its own series of F-15s built under license. For the modeler the key point is precisely the large hinged canopy with its prominent framing and large glazed areas, which are hard to mask by hand.
Degrease the glazing and let it dry thoroughly. Lift the pieces off the sheet with tweezers, lay them on by the center and press the edges into the corner of the frame exactly with a toothpick. First apply the interior shade of the cockpit, then the base color of the fuselage and finally the camouflage. The gray camouflage of fighters is low in contrast, so it pays to bring the panel lines out with a thin wash before the matte clear coat. Spray perpendicularly and in thin coats; an angled spray will blow under even a well-seated mask. Take the masks off while the paint has flashed off, and always toward the sprayed area.
