About product

The real subject

The designation F-16I belongs to the Israeli version of the F-16. The cockpit of a modern fighter is the most demanding place of the build for a modeler: the instrument panel, the side panels and the consoles carry dozens of small controls and displays which are hard to paint with a brush and which, if their size is misjudged, instantly spoil the impression of the whole model.

What the set contains

The set brings color interior elements produced by 3D printing, as the name itself states. The elements have raised relief, so the instruments and controls stand out above the surface and once they are in place look like real cockpit equipment rather than printing. The elements are applied the wet way: the part is dipped in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the backing paper into place. The mention of decal paper in the name therefore fits; the paper is the carrier of the print. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution.

Building and painting tips

First paint the cockpit in the base shade, let it dry and coat it with gloss clear coat; the element has no adhesive layer of its own and holds best on gloss. Sand the relief of the instruments molded on the kit parts smooth, so that the element seats over its whole area. Cut the elements from the sheet, soak them briefly, slide them off the paper with tweezers and press them down with a cotton swab; on an articulated spot a drop of cyanoacrylate helps. Lay the work out so that the parts follow on from one another from the top down.

  • 1:48 scale, the subject is the interior of the F-16I
  • color elements produced by 3D printing
  • applied the wet way, but with no softener
  • raised relief of the instruments and controls
  • sand the surface and coat it with gloss clear coat

Who it is for

For modelers who want the cockpit finished in an evening and at a level few reach with a brush. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise; check the kit the set is dimensioned for in the manufacturer's instructions.
