Kabuki tape masks in 1:48 scale for the Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor, BASIC coverage from New Ware. A pre-cut painting aid, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of pre-cut masks made from Japanese washi paper tape, commonly called kabuki, in 1:48 scale. It is intended for models of the American Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor fighter. The BASIC designation describes the extent of the set, that is, how much of the model the masks cover; it is the smallest of the levels offered, and the wider levels add further surfaces and parts. Check the exact contents against the packaging and the enclosed instructions.
The canopy of the F-22A is a single piece with no windscreen frame, so the model has no engraved line to guide the tape along. The boundary between the clear part and the frame is a single long curve, and hand masking rarely hits it symmetrically on both sides. A pre-cut part defines that curve unambiguously and repeats it identically. The clear part is also visually prominent on this type, so an imperfect edge shows at first glance.
Wash the clear parts before masking and let them dry; fingerprints stop the tape from adhering. Seat the mask with tweezers at the first attempt and press the edge down with a blunt tool in short sections so that the tape is not stretched. Spray thinly and perpendicular to the surface, in two or three coats. A proven approach is to spray the edge with the canopy interior shade first and only then apply the outer color. Once dry, peel the mask off back over itself at a sharp angle. Store the unused sheet flat in a sealed bag.
The package contains masks only. The model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
