Masks for the RAM surface panels of the F-35B in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. They serve for spraying the areas that differ in shade from the rest of the airframe.

A set of die-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the F-35B in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit and not a decal sheet. The masks define the areas of the so-called RAM surface, that is the panels that on the real machine have a different shade and a different degree of sheen from the surrounding skin, and they make it possible to spray them with a sharp edge. The manufacturer is the Czech brand Eduard.
The whole point of this set is that a second layer of shades is created on a model that looks like a single color. The procedure is always the same: the base shade of the airframe is sprayed, left to dry thoroughly, the masks are laid on it and a second, usually slightly different tone is applied over them. The difference should be subtle — it is a change of shade and sheen, not camouflage with pronounced contrast. That is exactly why it pays to mix the second tone from the base shade with a small addition of a lighter or darker color, so that the transition does not look like a sticker. The B version is the variant with short takeoff and vertical landing capability and therefore has features on the fuselage that the other versions do not.
Apply the masks to a perfectly cured base finish, or you will pull the paint off with them when lifting them. Press the edges down carefully and spray perpendicular to the surface, not at a sharp angle — an angled application seeps underneath. Very thin coats will do, because the difference in shade is meant to be discreet. After lifting the masks, unify the whole model with a matte or semi-matte clear coat, which softens the transitions.
