A resin accessory set that will replace the landing gear wheels when building a model in 1:48 scale. The form matches the early machines, on which the wheels differ from the later series. The tires have deformation under load cast in, so the finished model touches down on its base with a flattened area.
The manufacturer lists wheels for this subject in three forms, because as the takeoff weight of the aircraft gradually grew, both the main landing gear and the tires used changed. The surest way to choose correctly is to start from the particular version and period you are building and to compare photographs of the real machine with pictures of the contents of the set. A mix-up shows in the shape of the hub and is apparent even after painting.
The F-4 Phantom II is a twin-engined two-seat jet aircraft that was originally created for carrier use and later spread to land-based units in a number of countries. It was built in a great many versions and stayed in service for several decades. The early machines differ from the later ones in many airframe details, among them the landing gear wheels.
First wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent from the surface. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw so that the cut does not touch the flattened area, and sand the remainder flat. Stand the wheel on a board and check whether it touches down across its whole area; only then glue it with cyanoacrylate. After primer, spray the hub shade, mask the hub with a circular mask and finish the tire in dark gray with very fine lightening of the tread.
The set is an accessory for building a model, not a standalone model. It is supplied unpainted; paints and glue are not included in the package.
