A premium injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Super Wing Series of the Japanese manufacturer Zoukei-Mura. The model captures the F-4EJ Kai, the Japanese upgraded F-4 Phantom II, in the anniversary scheme of the 301st Squadron (301sq) at the end of its service. Zoukei-Mura is famous for an exceptional level of detail, including a well-developed internal structure. Paints, glue and accessories are not included.
The F-4EJ Kai was the upgraded Japanese version of the Phantom II in service with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. This particular machine carries the commemorative finish of the 301st Tactical Fighter Squadron with a symbolic frog motif on the vertical tail, recalling the end of Phantom operations with that unit. The two-seat, twin-engine machine was one of the icons of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force in the Cold War and later.
The premium kit offers rich detail of the engine and the interior, so consider which areas to leave exposed. The cockpit and the canopy glazing deserve masking templates for clean frames. Glue the plastic with liquid cement and apply primer before the airbrush. The striking commemorative finish and the unit markings come out well with careful application of the decals over a gloss base.
