Responsibility details are not available.
A mask set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the F-4G Phantom II in 1:48 scale. Unlike ordinary canopy masks, this set is aimed at the surface panels of the airframe. It is an accessory for a model, not a kit.
What panel masks are for
Real aircraft do not have a surface of one piece. Some panels are of a different material, wear differently or are sprayed in a different shade outright. Modelers create such an effect by masking selected areas after the base coat and spraying them in a slightly different tone. Doing that by hand is difficult, because the panels have irregular shapes and the edges have to sit on the engraved lines of the model. Pre-shaped masks simplify this step considerably, and the color mosaic of the surface looks convincing rather than random.
The F-4G Wild Weasel was a Phantom adapted for the suppression of enemy air defenses. The aircraft were created by converting the F-4E version and carried electronics for locating emitting radars. The gray schemes of the late Phantoms are particularly rewarding for panel shading, as the differences show up well on them.
Mask the panels only over a perfectly dry base coat, otherwise the mask will pull the paint off. Mix the shade for the overspray only slightly different from the base one, as a more pronounced difference looks unnatural. Spray perpendicularly and lightly, so that the edge does not form a step. Once the masks are off, even the whole surface out with a thin coat of clear.
The mask set is an accessory for a model; the model itself and paints are not included in the package.
