A resin detail set from the Aires brand in 1:48 scale, intended to improve the cockpit of a plastic kit of the two-seat Northrop F-5F Tiger II. The set replaces the original interior of the kit with finely cast parts of the tandem cockpit, with detailed instrument panels, side consoles and seats for both stations. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a kit.
The F-5F is the two-seat combat trainer version of the American Northrop F-5 Tiger II light fighter. Compared with the single-seat F-5E it has a lengthened forward fuselage with a tandem cockpit for the instructor and the student. It was powered by a pair of General Electric J85 engines. For its simplicity, agility and low running costs the type spread to many air forces around the world.
First wash the parts to remove mold release residue and separate them carefully from the casting blocks. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and the resin should be sanded with respiratory protection. Check the fit before the fuselage is closed. The interior usually calls for a shaded cockpit color, a dry brush on the edges and a wash in the recesses to bring out the relief.
This is a resin accessory for a kit, not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
