A masking set for the landing gear bays of the F-89D/J Scorpion in 1:48 scale. The designation in the name points it to the Monogram or Revell kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Northrop F-89 Scorpion was an American two-seat aircraft built for the defense of airspace in all weathers. The pilot sat in front and the radar operator behind him, the straight wing carried large tanks at the tips and the machine served in the 1950s with air-defense units. The F-89D version carried unguided rockets in trays at the wingtips, while the later F-89J was modified for the large unguided Genie rocket slung under the wing.
The mask closes off the landing gear bays, so they stay clean while the outer coat is sprayed and the transition between the color of the bay and the surrounding surface has a crisp edge. The shapes are cut for a particular kit, so compare the brand and the release of your kit with the manufacturer's data before you buy.
Stick the mask onto a dry and degreased surface before spraying and press the edges down carefully so that paint cannot flow under the edge. Apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy build-up makes a step on the edge that shows once the mask is off. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set, not after it has fully hardened, and pull it back over itself at an angle rather than straight up.
For modelers who build American interceptors of the 1950s and want the landing gear bays bounded without masking by hand. It is an accessory to a kit. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
