The Grumman F8F-1 Bearcat is an American carrier fighter with a piston radial engine. It was conceived as a small and light machine with a lot of power, meant to climb quickly and to operate from smaller decks as well, and it did not make it into the fighting of the Second World War in time. The cockpit is clearly visible in 1:48 scale, especially if you build the model with the canopy open.
The set brings colored 3D-printed interior elements with relief: the instrument panel, the side consoles and other surfaces of the cockpit. The elements are printed on decal backing paper and are applied by the wet method. The part is cut from the sheet, soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the paper into place. It has no adhesive layer of its own and holds reliably on gloss varnish. Do not use a decal softener or a decal setter, as they would attack the printed resin. The set is prepared for the F8F-1 kit from Hobby Boss in 1:48 scale.
Paint the cockpit in the base shade, let it dry thoroughly and coat it with gloss varnish, otherwise the element will not take hold. Dip the cut-out part in lukewarm water for a moment and slide it off the backing paper into place. Adjust its position with a soft brush, soak the excess water up with the corner of a paper towel and press the element down with a cotton bud from the center outwards, so that no air is left under it. On a busy surface a drop of cyanoacrylate helps.
The set suits modelers who want a fully drawn cockpit without painting the small instruments, and it is especially rewarding on a model with an open canopy. The package contains the interior elements only; the model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
