A photo-etched metal set for a model of the Fairey Fulmar Mk.I carrier aircraft in 1:48 scale. An accessory for a kit; the model is not included.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fairey Fulmar was a British carrier fighter of the Fleet Air Arm, in service from the beginning of the 1940s. Unlike land-based fighters it had a crew of two: behind the pilot sat a navigator who watched the course over the sea and the return to the ship. Thanks to that the aircraft could stay in the air a long time, even though it lagged behind single-seat machines in agility and speed. Power came from a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine.
A photo-etched set is a thin metal fret from which the individual parts are separated with a sharp blade. They replace those parts of a model that an injection mold cannot make, because they would have to be thinner than the wall of the part: instrument panels, consoles, belts, grilles and small sheet-metal covers. The set is meant for a model in 1:48 scale. The exact list of parts and the kit it is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the remaining bridges with a file, so that the part sits flat. Fold them in a bending tool or over the edge of a metal ruler. Use cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy on the joint, as ordinary cement for plastic models will not hold on metal. Before painting, degrease the metal and go over it with a primer. On the cockpit it pays to paint the parts while still on the fret and to touch them up only once glued in; that saves handling small pieces.
The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
