An accessory set from Aires that replaces the interior of the model of the Fairey Firefly Mk.I in 1:48 scale with a complete cast cockpit. It is not a kit and the model of the aircraft is not included in the package. A cast interior brings side walls with three-dimensional structure, instrument panels with real relief and seats with fine surface detail, that is things that cannot be produced in injected plastic. On a two-seat aircraft with long glazing the gain is even more marked than on single-seat machines — the whole inside is visible, from the front cockpit to the rear station.
The Fairey Firefly Mk.I is a British single-engine two-seat carrier aircraft of the Second World War, intended for fighter and reconnaissance duties and operated from aircraft carriers. Its characteristic features are the folding wing, two separate stations one behind the other under long glazing, and sturdy landing gear adapted to deck landings. It is precisely the division of the cockpit into two parts that makes the interior a prominent viewing surface on the finished model.
Wash the castings in warm water with a drop of dish soap, otherwise paint will not hold on the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw rather than nippers and sand the surfaces wet with respiratory protection. It is bonded exclusively with super glue. Dry-fit first to see whether the fuselage halves will close with the cockpit built in; it is usually necessary to thin the walls from the inside with a sanding bit. Paint the interior, add patina with a dark wash and bring out the edges with a dry brush before you close the fuselage.
The package holds only the accessory parts. The model, glue and paints are not part of it.
