Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks by Eduard in 1:48 scale intended for spraying US national insignia with a red outline onto a model of the FM-1 Wildcat carrier fighter. It is not a kit and it is not a set of masks for the canopy glazing either. The version with the red outline is a separate variant, and the manufacturer also makes a version without the outline alongside it, so you have to choose according to the particular finish you are building. A sprayed insignia has no glossy edge of carrier film and blends with the surface better than a decal.
US naval aviation went through several revisions of the national insignia during the war. The version with white side bars and a red outline around the whole insignia applied only very briefly in the summer of 1943, before the red outline was replaced by a blue one. It is precisely this short episode that makes machines with the red outline a rewarding subject that can be dated exactly. The FM-1 Wildcat was the license-built version of the Grumman F4F fighter with four machine guns.
Smooth the surface and spray it with a gloss varnish; sharp edges will only come out on a smooth surface. Seat the masks and press the edges down with a blunt tool. With a multi-color insignia work from the lighter color to the darker one and let the paint dry properly between coats. Spray perpendicular to the surface, not at an angle under the edge of the mask.
