Exhausts for the FM-1 Wildcat/Martlet Mk.V in 1:48 scale: an Eduard accessory carrying the PRINT designation, which refines the engine area of the license-built Wildcat.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set of exhausts from Eduard, carrying the PRINT designation from the brand's current production in its name, is made for models of the license-built Wildcat in 1:48 scale. Exhaust outlets are among the places where the viewer's eye looks for three-dimensionality, and this accessory solves them more elegantly than an ordinary kit part can.
When Grumman concentrated on producing Hellcats, the Eastern Aircraft division of the General Motors automotive group took over Wildcat production. Machines from its lines carried the designation FM-1 and served with the Fleet Air Arm under the name Martlet Mk.V. The compact fighter operated mainly from small escort carriers, where it protected Atlantic convoys against submarines and long-range reconnaissance aircraft.
The exhausts come into their own through layering shades: a base in dark metal, irregular maps of rust over it, and the surroundings of the outlets drawn in with fine smoky shading. Let the mouths of the outlets read as hollow: in a small scale darkening the inside and a crisp rim are enough. On the Wildcat the exhausts run along the sides of the fuselage right behind the engine cowling, where a trail of exhaust gases continues across the flank. Apply that with heavily thinned paint in several thin coats and always in the direction of the airflow. Fit the part among the last ones and you will save yourself masking. A drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied with a toothpick is amply enough.
