A full radar conversion for a Grumman F6F Hellcat model in 1:48 scale, prepared for the Eduard and Hasegawa kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter of the Second World War - a robust machine with folding wings, built for hard use from the deck of an aircraft carrier. Some Hellcats received an airborne radar housed in a pod on the wing and served on tasks a day fighter could not manage: patrols in darkness and in poor weather. It is that pod on the wing that makes a radar Hellcat look like a different machine at first glance.
It is a full radar conversion in 1:48 scale that reworks a Hellcat model into the form equipped with a radar. The set is prepared for the Eduard and Hasegawa kits, so compare the instructions with the kit you have at home before building. The list of parts, where they go and the order of work are all described in the manufacturer's instructions enclosed with the set.
Before you start cutting, go through the whole instruction sheet and dry-fit the parts; with conversions it pays to take material off little by little and keep trying the fit. Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the surface flat. Wash everything in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let it dry, so that the primer holds. Apply the paint in thin coats and choose the shades according to the documentation for the particular machine.
The conversion is for modelers who already have experience of reworking kits and want to build a less usual form of a well-known aircraft. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
