An add-on of the Quinta Studio brand for working up the cockpit of a model of the German Fw 190A-4 fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or a set of plastic parts: the interior elements are printed with relief, already painted and carried on decal paper, as the name states. The cockpit of the Fw 190 is narrow and densely built up, so relief and a finished color scheme do a great deal of the work for the modeler here.

The real subject

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was a German fighter aircraft with an air-cooled BMW radial engine, which differed at first glance from the slender inline fighters of its day. The A-4 version came about at the turn of 1942 and 1943 and differed mainly in equipment, among other things a modified radio set. For a pilot the Fw 190 was comfortable: it had a good view under the bubble canopy, a wide undercarriage track and automatic control of the powerplant simplified a number of tasks.

Usage tips

The procedure for transferring the elements onto the plastic is described by the manufacturer in the instructions with the set; go by that. Before the work, try dry how the cockpit seats into the fuselage.

• Keep the surface underneath smooth, clean and degreased.
• Work with fine tweezers and in good light.
• Leave the placed elements alone to dry.
• No decal softener is used, as its chemistry would damage the print.
