Eduard 1:48 General Dynamics F-16I SUFA - painting masks

This is a set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks from Eduard (a Czech manufacturer) in 1:48 scale. It is not a model or parts of one: the masks serve for quick masking of the glazing and other areas before spraying. Thanks to them you get sharp canopy frames without lengthy taping.

What it is for

The masks are die-cut from kabuki tape (a fine yellow masking paper), which adheres well, follows curves and leaves no adhesive residue when removed. The Israeli F-16I Sufa is a two-seat heavy multi-role version of the F-16 and its broken-up glazing is hard to mask by hand, so a pre-shaped set speeds the work up markedly.

Use and tips

• Clean and degrease the glazing, press the masks down carefully and push the air out.
• Cover the remaining areas with tape or masking fluid and spray thin coats of paint.
• Remove the masks shortly after the paint has dried, while the layer is still flexible.
