Responsibility details are not available.
A set of six miniatures of German five-liter oil cans of the Second World War in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory: a load for vehicles, equipment for workshop scenes and a small detail for a diorama. The 1:48 scale is at home with both aviation hardware and ground models, so the set also comes into its own in airfield scenes.
Containers for engine oil were part of the equipment of vehicles and of field workshops, and on a model they fill empty places that would otherwise look uninhabited. At the same time they act as a guide to scale: from a familiar object the viewer at once judges the size of the surrounding hardware. Six pieces in the package are enough for several places on one model or for a smaller scene.
In 1:48 scale the parts are noticeably smaller than in 1:35, so it pays to paint them stuck to a stick or a board and to leave handling with tweezers until the end. The process: primer, a thin base shade, a dark wash into the recesses, a drybrush on the edges and finally spot chipping. Keep the weathering more restrained than in a larger scale, otherwise it will merge into one dark area. Matte varnish unifies the surface and hides the transitions between painting techniques.
The set is an accessory, not a model. It is supplied unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
