This resin set of the Quickboost brand from the Czech manufacturer Aires brings faithfully cast underwing machine gun pods for a model of the British Gloster Gladiator biplane fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers that replaces the coarser plastic parts with a crisp casting. The pods carried an additional pair of machine guns under the lower wing and are characteristic of the Gladiator.

The real subject

The Gloster Gladiator was a British single-seat biplane fighter, the last of its kind in the service of the Royal Air Force. It was deployed at the beginning of the Second World War on a number of fronts and made its name among other things in the defense of Malta. Besides the fuselage machine guns it also carried additional armament in pods under the wings.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that any mold release residue is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), not with plastic cement. The muzzles of the barrels can be lightly drilled out for fidelity.
