1:48 Gnome-Rhone 14N is an accessory capturing the later development family of the French radial engine for building an exposed powerplant.
Responsibility details are not available.
An item for a builder who wants to show the engine on a model and not just its cowling. The 14N family is the later and more powerful relative of the older French fourteen-cylinder engines and it powered machines that saw the fighting of 1940. A model of the aircraft is not part of the package.
The development of the 14N followed on from the older family and brought higher power while keeping the proven arrangement of two rows of seven cylinders. The engine reached the fighters as well as the twin-engine bombers of the French Air Force and it was among the units on which its combat capability rested in the last prewar years. Characteristic is the installation with a long cowling and a carefully worked-out exit for the cooling air, because French designers were then fighting for every kilometer of speed. After 1940 the production and the stocks of these engines became spoils and the units served elsewhere than they had been intended for.
Before you glue the engine in, think through how open the nacelle will be, because that is how you will know which sections have to be finished off. Paint the inside of the cowling before the engine, as once it is seated you will no longer get in there with a brush. At the end, highlight the front ring and the cylinder heads, as those create the impression of depth of the whole installation.
