Grandmother and grandson from Black Dog is a pair of civilian figures in 1:48 scale for dioramas with a human story.
Responsibility details are not available.
A civilian subject from the range of the Czech brand Black Dog. The name names two people of different ages, which is fairly rare among figures in 1:48 scale, where aircrew and technical personnel predominate. The smaller scale also saves room in the display case and allows a scene to be built even where a diorama in 1:35 would stand no chance.
Military vehicles tell no story on their own. As soon as someone who does not belong to their world appears beside them, the viewer starts thinking about the context: who lived here before, who stayed, what has just happened. A pair consisting of an older woman and a child strengthens that effect, because the relationship between the figures is readable at first glance and needs no explanation. At the same time it is a good reference point for proportion: a child beside an adult shows size better than any measuring device.
In 1:48 it is cleanliness that decides, not the amount of detail. Keep the faces simple, a skin tone, a shadow under the chin and in the eye sockets, a hint of a mouth, and do without painting the irises, which would look harsh in the result. The clothing of the older figure is held by muted shades, while on the child you can afford one lighter tone, giving the eye somewhere to go. Seat the figures so that a small gap is left between them and one of them turns toward the other.
