This photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler contains street gratings and manhole covers in 1:48 scale. The thin metal makes it possible to capture the fine structure and the pierced patterns that could not be reproduced faithfully in plastic. It is not a model: these are diorama accessories for town and street scenes, into which you set equipment or figures.
Gratings and covers set into a surface (plaster, filler, plastic) give a street base a realistic texture and sense of scale. They are ideal for town dioramas, yards, courtyards and industrial scenes.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface. Seat the covers in a recess made in the surface so that they sit flush with the area around them. Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The metal takes a primer well, and with it the subsequent effects of rust, grease and grime applied with washes and pigments.
This is an accessory for a scene, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base are not included in the package.
