This is an aftermarket detail set for models of the F-14A Tomcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but a small accessory from Quickboost. The accurately cast resin rear fairing between the engine nacelles, nicknamed the beaver tail, matches the early production form and replaces the corresponding plastic part from the base kit.

The real subject

The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was an American carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing, deployed above all in the defense of carrier groups. The F-14A version was the first production variant. The flat rear fairing between the engine nozzles, the so-called beaver tail, differed in detail between the early and the later machines, and this set offers the early form.

Use and tips

• Separate the part carefully from the casting block with a sharp knife or a fine saw.
• Before gluing, wash it in lukewarm water free of any mold release agent.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue.
• Level the transition to the fuselage with fine filler and sanding if needed.
