A double-sided masking set for the model of the American Grumman F3F-2 carrier biplane in 1:48 scale. The TFace version means that the package holds templates for the outer and the inner side of the glazing. The cockpit frame can therefore be painted in the top shade from the outside and in the interior shade from within. The set usually deals with the wheels as well, so that the hub can be separated from the tire without touching up.
The F3F was the last fighter biplane of American naval service. It had an all-metal fuselage, a radial engine and retractable landing gear that folded by hand into the sides of the fuselage. The F3F-2 version received a more powerful engine and a wider cowling. Models of biplanes are harder to paint than monoplanes: there is little room between the wings, and the fewer touch-ups you have to correct afterwards, the better.
First stick the inner templates on, spray the interior and let it dry. The outer masks come only after that, together with the top coat. On a biplane, mask and paint before the wings are joined by the struts, because once assembled the space between the flying surfaces is hard to reach even with an airbrush. Degrease the glazing, press the edges of the masks down and spray thin coats. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, drawing them along the edge. On the wheels, stick a circular template onto the tire and spray the hub.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
