Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat stencils 1:48 is an Eduard decal sheet aimed at the small technical lettering of the carrier fighter aircraft. It completes a finished model; on its own it is not a kit.

The English word stencils in the name means the small service and operational lettering, that is warning texts by the weapons, filling and lubrication markings, the labels of arming panels or instructions for the ground crew. This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard is aimed at exactly those and serves to give a model in 1:48 scale the density of small markings that a real aircraft has. It is not a kit or a photo-etched set, only a printed decal sheet.
The F6F-3 was the first production version of the Grumman Hellcat carrier fighter aircraft. It was a robust all-metal low-wing monoplane with a powerful radial engine, wide landing gear retracting into the wing and folding wings for parking on an aircraft carrier. The design was laid out from the start with deck operation and easy maintenance in field conditions in mind, and that is precisely why it carried a great deal of technical lettering on its skin. The F6F-3 version made up the backbone of production in the first phase of the type's deployment.
Small lettering is the most prone to silvering, because it has a large ratio of edge to printed area. The base must therefore be a smooth gloss clear coat. Cut the motifs one at a time and as close to the print as possible, dip them briefly and transfer them with tweezers or the tip of a damp brush. The work is lengthy, so reckon on several sittings and proceed panel by panel, so as not to lose track of the order. Use a decal softener sparingly, as on miniature motifs it can wrinkle the print. Once dry and under a flat clear coat, the density of the lettering looks markedly more realistic than national insignia alone.
