Eduard 1:48 Grumman F6F-3 US national insignia is a set of pre-cut masks for spraying the American national insignia onto a Hellcat model in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks with which the American national insignia on a Hellcat model in 1:48 scale are sprayed instead of being applied as decals. The insignia then have no glossy edge of carrier film, they do not wrinkle anywhere over riveting or engraved lines and they match exactly the shade you have used on the rest of the machine.
Sprayed insignia against decals
A decal lies on the surface as a thin layer and, seen against the light, its edge is usually visible even after clear coating. A sprayed marking is part of the finish, so it behaves just like the paint around it, including weathering, chipping and fading, which you can carry across it without worry.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was a carrier fighter of the US Navy with the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine. The F6F-3 version was the first production form of the type and was used from 1943 in the Pacific, where it became the backbone of the carrier fighter units. The national insignia of American machines went through several changes during the war, so the particular form of the marking is among the details a modeler checks against the scheme chosen.
The surface under a mask has to be smooth and cleanly sprayed, otherwise paint will run under it. Press the mask down with a soft stick, above all around its edge, and spray in several thin coats. The lighter color of the marking is applied first, and once it has dried the darker one. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried.
