A New Ware mask set at the EXPERT level for a model of the H-34 helicopter in 1:48 scale. The masks are pre-cut from kabuki paper, that is from thin Japanese masking tape, which can be shaped over curves and leaves no adhesive on the finish after removal. A helicopter with a glazed forward section of the cockpit and a row of side windows belongs among the models where masking by hand can easily take a whole evening - and it is precisely this time that the set saves. The package contains masking material exclusively, no part of a model. The EXPERT level is listed by the manufacturer as the more extensive variant of the set.

The real subject

The H-34 is a single-engine helicopter with a piston engine housed in the forward part of the fuselage and with the crew cockpit seated high above it. It was used in transport, liaison and rescue tasks and was operated in a number of countries. Characteristic of it are the deep fuselage with a large cargo compartment and the four-blade main rotor.

Usage tips

• Wash and degrease the glazing first; a mask holds badly on fingerprints.
• Lift the masks with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick, mainly in the corners of the windows and at the transitions.
• Spray in thin coats and perpendicular, so that paint does not run under the edge of the mask.
• Spray the frames first with the interior shade and only then with the outer finish.
• Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried; with longer standing there is a risk that they tear the edge of the coat away.
