A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:48 scale for a plastic kit of the British Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIB fighter. The fifth part of the Art Scale series is devoted to machines in the service of the US Army Air Forces, a combination of a British airframe and American national insignia that is not found in the boxes of ordinary kits. The set is an accessory to a kit, not a model.
The Hurricane Mk.IIB had a Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine and twelve .303 caliber machine guns in the wings. It was a robust and undemanding machine that could be operated even from improvised strips, and it therefore stayed in service at a time when it was no longer a match for more modern types as a day fighter. American air units met Hurricanes where they operated alongside British units and took equipment over from them. A model with American insignia on a British airframe is among the most interesting combinations that can be built of the type.
Apply them onto a smooth gloss base, otherwise a silvery edge will stay around the motif. Cut the motif out close to the print, soak it briefly and let it rest on a piece of paper. Place large roundel insignia in one movement and measure the position in advance. Over engraved lines use a decal softener in small parts, draw off the excess water and, once dry, coat the model with a flat or semi-gloss clear varnish.
