An airbrush mask of Soviet turret numbers in 1:35 scale from 1 Man Army, in character heights of 6 to 9.5 mm.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of painting templates for spraying tactical numbers onto the turrets of Soviet machines in 1:35 scale. The template is applied to a finished coat, sprayed over with an airbrush, and once it is lifted the number is left sprayed directly in the paint. Against a decal, the carrier film, the silvering and the glossy edge on a matte surface all fall away. According to the name the characters run from 6 to 9.5 mm in height, that is in the smaller form; larger numbers are covered by a separate sister set.
Tactical numbers on the turrets of Soviet vehicles served to tell machines apart within a unit. There was no single regulation for them, so the size, the shape and the color differed and they were not seldom applied in the field. A modeler therefore needs several ranges of sizes in order to match the particular photograph or scheme being built.
The base must be perfectly cured and degreased. Carry the small characters with tweezers and press the edges down firmly; with small heights, seepage is the most common mistake. Spray perpendicularly, in weak coats only and rather more than once. Lift the mask off while the paint is fresh. At the end unify the number with its surroundings using a dust filter or a light rubbing back of the edges, so that it looks like part of the finish.
