Lowered landing flaps for the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc in 1:48 scale from Eduard replace the blanked-off plastic flaps with a full photo-etched part.
Responsibility details are not available.
Lowered flaps are among the most rewarding changes to a model standing on the ground. Plastic kits usually have the flaps molded closed and in one piece with the wing, so nothing can be made of them but a flat surface. This photo-etched set from the Czech firm Eduard offers a replacement that makes it possible to show the flaps in the position the aircraft had them in on landing and when parked at an airfield.
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc was the cannon variant of the British fighter, powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin of the XX series and armed with four 20 mm cannons in the wings. It was used from 1941 for night fighting, for attacks on ground targets, over the Mediterranean and in the Far Eastern theater. It is on machines caught on the ground that the sight of lowered flaps and open radiators is typical.
Allow for the fact that this kind of change calls for work on the plastic: the flaps are cut out of the wing and the opening is cleaned up. It is better to cut twice over, at a distance from the final edge, and only then to level it. Free the photo-etched parts of grease with a degreaser or dish soap, or the paint will not hold on them. Make the folds over the edge of a bending tool or at least over a razor blade, and bond with cyanoacrylate glue. The inside of the flaps and the exposed parts of the wing usually carry the interior color, so paint them before you glue the whole up.
