Ground crew equipment for the South American attack aircraft: FMA IA 58 Pucará – FOD covers 1:48 close off the engine intakes of a model parked on the flight line.
Responsibility details are not available.
Covers over the intake openings keep foreign objects out of the engine and on parked machines you will find them practically always. On a model they do two jobs at once: they give a scene the flavor of real operations and at the same time they elegantly hide the space behind the intake, which kits tend to represent only sketchily.
The FMA IA 58 Pucará is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft made for supporting ground troops and for counter-insurgency work. It came about in Argentina, first flew at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, and its shape with an angular fuselage, a high-set tail and a tandem crew is unmistakable. The design allowed for taking off from short and unpaved strips, hence the tall landing gear and the robust structure. The type saw its best-known service in 1982 in the South Atlantic, where it suffered heavy losses on the ground.
On real aircraft the covers are in a bright color, usually red, so that the ground crew cannot miss them before takeoff. A rich shade over a smooth base therefore suggests itself, with a gentle hint of the texture of the fabric or the strap. There is usually scuffing and dust around the attachment points, but keep it restrained, otherwise a small part will dirty the overall impression. Apply the paint thinly so that the edges stay sharp.
What is offered are the covers only; the aircraft and paints are obtained separately.
