The 1:48 IX-514 Baylander display base from Kelik captures the helicopter deck of this well-known US Navy training vessel.
Responsibility details are not available.
A color display base for a model capturing the helicopter deck of the American vessel Baylander with the designation IX-514. It is not a model of the ship but a surface on which you stand a finished helicopter in the 1:48 scale given in the name.
The Baylander is a small vessel that the US Navy used for training helicopter landings on a ship's deck. That is exactly why it has an unusually extensive landing area for its size, with prominent circular markings. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject: the deck is compact enough to fit under a single machine and yet it looks convincing and easy to read.
It fits under light and medium helicopters in 1:48 scale. It also serves well as a base for shots in which the machine is to be captured at the moment of touchdown, because the circular markings give the composition a natural center. It will be appreciated by collectors of naval helicopter equipment and by modelers looking for a fresh subject. The small surface has one more advantage: a machine looks bigger on it than it would on the extensive deck of a large carrier, so even a model of a smaller type stands out.
