A board of acrylic 3 mm thick in a format of 410 x 270 mm is printed with the flag of the Japanese navy. A weight of 410 g guarantees that the base will not slide anywhere under finished work, and the cut edges hold a regular outline. The Ukrainian manufacturer Kelik has this range in its offering in several sizes.
From the civil version the ensign differs by the shifted disc and by sixteen diverging rays. The Imperial Japanese Navy chose it in 1889, and after the war the Maritime Self-Defense Force returned to it in an adjusted form. It is known even to people who do not build models, because it tends to appear in period photographs of aircraft carriers.
The base has so much room that beside a fighter of the stated scale you can place a mechanic, a transport cart and a set of wheel chocks. The rays at the same time work as natural guiding lines, so the model only needs to be turned so that its axis runs diagonally against them; the composition then does not look static. Fingerprints disappear from the glossy surface after a wipe with microfiber.
The board is supplied on its own; you stand your own finished model on it.
