Responsibility details are not available.
A combined package from the maker Artwox Model for the plastic kit of the Russian battleship Poltava in 1:350 scale. According to the name it holds a veneer deck with pre-printed plank laying and a self-adhesive backing, and masking sheets. The kit is not part of it; this is an accessory for a model you buy separately, and it has to be the Zvezda 9060 kit.
On older ships the wooden deck dominated the view, and its pattern is the first thing that catches the eye on a finished model. Planks printed on plastic look flat, whereas a thin veneer has fibers of its own and minute differences in height, so the surface responds to light. On a model on display that is a difference visible even without a magnifier.
The hardest spot is the bow. Veneer bends readily along its length, but at the curve of the bow you are forcing it across, and there it cracks. Two things help: moistening the wood slightly from the back shortly before gluing so that it becomes supple, and gluing it in very short sections with continuous pressing. Work in a room that is tempered and not outright dried out; in a dry winter room with the heating on, veneer is more brittle and the adhesive layer takes hold more slowly. And before you press anything down for good, lay the part on dry and check that all the cut-outs coincide; once it is pressed down, correction is no longer possible.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model. The ship itself, glue and paints are obtained separately.
