A detailed add-on set from Aires in 1:48 scale for plastic models of the Swedish fighter JAS-39 Gripen. It is not a model of an aircraft, but a set of resin wheel bays which replaces the simplified plastic parts of the base kit with faithfully cast spaces full of internal detail: ribbing, plumbing and wall texture.
Resin castings add depth and relief that injection-molded plastic cannot reach. Detailed wheel bays markedly raise the realism of the underside of a model, especially on machines displayed with the landing gear extended, where these spaces are clearly visible.
The JAS-39 Gripen is a single-engine multi-role fighter of Swedish manufacture with a delta wing and canards, designed to operate even from short and improvised runways. The type serves with the Swedish Air Force and with a number of other users abroad.
First wash the resin parts free of mold release residue and carefully separate them from the casting blocks; clean up any flash on the casting. Bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); protect your airways when sanding resin. Apply a primer before painting and bring out the inside of the bays with light tones and a fine wash.
