This is not a kit but a basic photo-etched detail set for a model you buy separately. It is cut for the kit of the Japanese Type 10 tank in 1:48 scale from the Tamiya brand. It is made by the Czech brand Hauler, long focused on photo-etched and resin accessories.
A basic photo-etched set covers what takes the form of thin sheet or a small metal structure on the vehicle: the grilles above the engine compartment, the eyes, the grab handles, the brackets, the small covers and the flanges. On modern tanks these elements are very fine, and an injection mold manages them only as suggested relief. A metal part moreover lets light through where the real subject is perforated, so that a grille really does look like a grille and not like a plastic plate with engraving. On a modern vehicle with large smooth areas this is one of the few ways of giving a model depth without a rebuild.
Work on a smooth hard surface, and separate the parts with a sharp scalpel or shears for photo-etch by pressure, never by twisting. Sand the fret tab remnants down. For the bends use a bender or a metal ruler, and bend along the etched line. A stiff part can be annealed briefly over a flame. Degreasing with spirit before gluing is essential, as on greasy metal neither glue nor primer will hold. It is glued with super glue applied in a minimal amount, with the tip of a ground-down piece of wire for instance. Fit the finest parts only after the base coat on the hull, so as not to handle them needlessly. Finally a primer for metal, and only then the paint and the weathering.
The Type 10 is a Japanese main battle tank taken into service in 2012. It has a 120 mm smoothbore gun, an autoloader, modular armor and hydropneumatic suspension allowing the lean and the ground clearance to be changed. Its lower weight compared with its Western counterparts follows from the requirements for transport over the Japanese infrastructure.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
