An add-on set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for 1:48 scale. It contains seat harnesses rendered as color photo-etched parts in steel. It is not an aircraft kit: the belts are glued into the cabin of a model you buy separately.
The STEEL designation does not just mean a different metal but above all a different way the part behaves in the hand. Steel sheet is springier than brass and yet holds its shape once bent, so a belt can be folded convincingly over the edge of a seat or left hanging loose to the floor, and it will stay that way. It is exactly this irregular, relaxed shape that sets a faithful cabin apart from one where the belts look like glued-on strips of paper. The parts are also color-printed, including the fittings and buckles, so they need no painting.
This three-engine transport aircraft with its corrugated duralumin skin has, compared with a fighter, a roomy and well-lit interior where more than a single seat is visible. The details therefore cannot hide, and the belts are among the first things the eye notices. Before gluing them, check dry how the belts will run, and only then fix them.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard mat, not by twisting. Shape them with rounded tweezers or a toothpick, and make the bends gradually, in several steps. They are bonded with a small drop of super glue applied with a pointed tool, or spot by spot with clear varnish if you need time to align them. Do not overspray the color print, and apply matte varnish only to the surrounding plastic.
This is an add-on set, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
