This is a detail accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The set replaces the seats from a plastic kit of the K5Y trainer in 1:48 scale with resin castings. The exact number of pieces in the package is stated on the box.
The K5Y was a Japanese training biplane of the 1930s with two open positions one behind the other, under the Allied designation Willow. An open cockpit is both an opportunity and a trap for the modeler: the interior is in view from above along its whole length and anything simplified inside is apparent at once. The seat is meanwhile the most conspicuous item in a cockpit of this kind, because it has no canopy above it that would partly hide it. Injection-molded plastic runs into the limits of the technology here: the shell of the seat must have a noticeable thickness because of the mold, and lightening holes or a frame can only be suggested by engraving. A resin casting can manage a thin wall and an openwork structure, so the seat looks like a real piece of equipment rather than a solid block.
The seats tend to be cast on a common casting block. Separate them with a fine-toothed saw and work patiently, as the thin edges cannot be nipped off and crack under force. Level the remains of the block with a file and try the surface dry against the cockpit floor. Wash the casting beforehand in warm water with detergent, so that the mold release agent disappears. Glue with cyanoacrylate; for accurate seating it suits to apply a drop on the point of a toothpick rather than straight from the bottle. Sand only wet and with your breathing protected. Given that the seat will be permanently on show in an open cockpit, it pays to paint it separately off the model and set it inside only once finished.
