An accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard from its range of 3D printed parts. It replaces the turbosuperchargers on the P-38J Lightning in 1:48 scale. A word right at the start: this is not an aircraft kit but a small detail set that serves as a replacement for the original parts. The base model is not included in the package and you have to have it.
The P-38 Lightning was a twin-engine fighter with two booms, in the upper part of which the engine turbosuperchargers were mounted. That area is well visible from above on a model and at the same time belongs to the most complex shapes of the whole design, so injection-molded plastic has limited possibilities there. The J version belonged to the late production batches of the type.
Parts from a 3D print are cut off the supports with a sharp knife or fine clippers, and the traces of the supports are sanded down with fine paper. Before gluing it is a good idea to wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry. They are bonded with super glue, because solvent cement for polystyrene does not work here. The material is more brittle than the plastic of a kit, so work over a mat and without force. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the shade behaves differently on the printing material than on plastic.
The set is an accessory, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
