The photo-etched parts replace those components which are thin in reality and necessarily come out thicker in injection-molded plastic, and they add small elements that cannot be made in a mold. The SR-71 Blackbird is an American strategic reconnaissance aircraft from Lockheed. The airframe is largely built from titanium alloys, because the surface heats up strongly during long flight at high supersonic speed. Power comes from two J58 engines with movable intake cones that change the character of the flow according to speed. The aircraft was designed for reconnaissance at great altitudes, and its black surface earned it the nickname it carries in its name.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard backing rather than nipping them off. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two rulers. Degrease the sheet and glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a small amount. The plastic under a photo-etched part often has to be thinned so that the part beds down level. With the dark finish the Blackbird is usually sprayed in, the fine edges of the photo-etching stand out above all after a light accent with a dry brush.
The set does not contain a kit. It is an accessory to a model; check that it matches the kit you are building.
