1:48 M20A Super Bazooka

The set

The antitank rocket launcher known as the Super Bazooka, in 1:48 scale. It is a hand-held weapon of 3.5 inch caliber, that is 88.9 mm, which the crew carried on the shoulder and fired a rocket from against armored vehicles. In a diorama it is a prominent object, because its length is greater than the height of a standing figure.

What it is suited to

The set will complete infantry figures, gear stacked against a wall or the load of a vehicle. It also works well as a storytelling detail: a weapon propped up by the entrance to a yard says more about the situation than another standing figure.

Building and painting tips

The parts are not polystyrene, so they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, not with solvent cement for plastic. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest back; with the thin tube work in small steps. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and lay down a base coat.

• try the weapon dry against the figure, so that it sits in the hands and on the shoulder
• darken the muzzle of the tube last, otherwise the shade is lost under the later coats
• bring out the metal parts with a dry brush; a thin pass is enough
• check the extent of the set and the number of pieces in the manufacturer's instructions

Who it is for

For builders of dioramas and figures in 1:48 scale whose scene is missing a particular item of gear. The work is fine, but apart from tweezers and a sharp blade nothing special is needed for it.

This is an accessory set. Figures, kits, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
